Is it normal to think pathological demand avoidance should be renamed?

Pathological Demand Avoidance is allegedly a part of the autism spectrum.

The term was invented by Elizabeth Newson in the 80s and initially known as "atypical autism". However, if you do some reading into the behaviours of people with that condition, or worse still know someone who has it, you will know the way they choose to behave is actually much closer to a personality disorder.

So should Pathological Demand Avoidance be renamed to Demand Avoidant Personality Disorder? Yes or no?

I'll add sources as and when I feel like it, it's late and Demand Avoidant Personality Disorder is one of my triggers

    It isn’t autism.

    • UK medical professionals, including Elizabeth Newson (who invented the term) say otherwise, for some odd reason.

I agree and am really unhappy how PDA and ODD have been allowed to co-opt autism

Why do you care about the specific name of a disorder? It will still be the same thing, even after it's renamed. Also, if you look up the meaning of "pathological," it seems to describe what you are referring to just as fine as the word "personality" would.

          • Fair enough!

Honestly wondering whether someone I know has it myself.
I did a very small read of the Wiki and it doesn't sound like it's much fun to have. Thank you for answering (Even though I worded my last comment in a dickish way, looking back)

Well I appreciate the self reflection but it's the internet so I'm used to it. (Also it wasn't dickish)

No one can guess how smart you could of been. Though the numerous learning disabilities gives the perception of people with klienfelters being below average. Though the extreme cases (depends on how much influence the extra chromosome does) can be bad. So I'm a mild case of it.
