Is it normal to think of kibbles for humans

Dog and cat food come in bags with all nutritional value included. This food is good for many years without refrigeration or special handling.

A dog or cat can live their whole life eating nothing but kibbles.

Why isn't there a kibble for humans? This could solve many world hunger problems and keep people fed for years in time of emergency.

Is it normal to wonder why isn't there a similar product for humans?

Because humans buy their own food and pick what they want to eat. If cats and dogs had money and supermarkets they wouldn't say, "Mmmm... more dried crap for me because I lack imagination and don't want food that tastes of something". They'd eat wildebeeste and drink cream.

  • Great idea, except the people who run the world would lose money so it won't happen.

    • If you are what you eat, think of how much more human you would be if you ate nothing but humans.

I've often wondered this myself. I would think that this would've a good option for some dieters, too. Keep nothing in the house but People Chow nutrient nuggets, and chances are you'd be so sick of them you'd only ever eat what you had to.
Now, I have heard they make specially formulated kibble for primates in zoos. So that's gotta be close to what we, as primates, need. I suppose that food companies just don't think there'd be a big enough market for it. Also, if they make the claim that their kibble is all you need to eat, they better be darned sure, otherwise the lawsuits will come fast and furiously if anything goes wrong.

To be honest, I always wanted to try dog/cat food. I never did try it because I was told that it is disgusting.

    • Good idea but I do not want to be attacked by hungry birds and hippies during the Apocalypse.

That and could one sustain 50 years of life on granola?

I see what you mean. I have wondered this before myself. Study nutrition and maybe you can invent something. The closest thing we have to this is vitamins but even with those you still need regular food. You know this was kind of the idea behind cereal right? They wanted a whole wheat replacement for on the go. So they made thigs like wheeties. It worked till they started adding all this sugary shit to it. Except I dont think calling it kibbles will make it very appealing to humans.

There is. A whole lot of them. What do you think processed food is? But just because you can survive off it, does not mean it is good nutrition.

    • You're missing the point and you said it yourself. Processed food is shit. I'm not discussing that.

I can get 20 Kg of food for a dog and it will provide full nutrition for a lifetime yet remain stable on a shelf.

Name one human food that will sustain health and life indefinitely yet remain inert on a shelf.

The closest I can think of is rice and beans, and that needs preparation. You cannot eat it out if the bag dry.

Cliff bars, power bars, protein powder, canned beans, canned anything with the right preservative chemicals added..

There are natural ways of preserving food (drying, curing, pickling)but it has a shorter shelf life.

Have you read the ingredients in kibble? Same chemicals, more bone meal. Without those chemicals you would not have a very long shelf life on that kibble.

        • I read the ingredients on a bag of top rated dog food. This is what made me think of this in the first place.

You mentioned preservatives. There are far scarier ingredients in a box of cheez its than good dog food by a long shot.

I agree that a good combination of your examples would sustain life, but no one food you mentioned would work for a healthy lifetime.

Then why compare good quality dog food to poor quality human food? Quality dog food does not have a long shelf life either.

            • Quality dog food has a shelf life of 2 years. I am just trying to make a point that there is no comparable stand alone human food edible straight from a bag that will sustain good nutrition indefinitely.

              There should be.

I'm not trying to be arguementative, just wanting to make my point.
