Is it normal to think marrying for love is stupid

being in love is not a good reason to get married. that is retarded.

my parents got married just because they were in love. now that they are no longer in love, they hate eachother and my dad wants a divorce.

Somehow, I can't help but feel that your view of your parents marriage is simplistic at best.

Why are you even marrying periods? There is more to a woman than just her vaginal discharge you know

It's normal how you view marriage now because of the situation you went through. It won't be normal if you view marriage like this your whole life. As soon as you fall in love, you'll want to get married for that reason.

    • Thats hilarious. I was madly in love with someone last year and absolutely didn't want to marry this woman at all. I wasnt sexually attracted to her and did not view her as a potential life partner at any point during our relationship.

I really like the idea of marrying a nice guy that I get along with, that agrees with me on how to raise children (this is crucial just in case he gets me pregnant), and seems like a good partner. I would probably fall in love with him after getting married to him because I would be so happy I found a great guy. Thats the kind of marriage I would like to have, if I do get married.

Well that's you. Most people marry for love. There are other reasons, yeah, everyone has their own gig, this is just the undeniable majority.

        • Being in love just doesnt seem like a reason to get married. The whole idea of getting married just because you are in love gives me the creeps. Isnt the whole point of marriage having a committed life partner?

I feel like I view things the opposite of how society views them. If I have feelings of passion for someone I usually want to be friends with them (having a close relationship without sex or living together).

I hope I find someone who feels the same way. Maybe some day.

Love is emotion. When emotion runs out of ones life, love is finished.

well there is love, but sometimes other things overtake these feelings and u feel u hate that person whom u loved once...

i think they need time and eventually they'll understand that they love each other.
maybe there will be some scars but time heals everything...
they just need some time to think and it will work out, if they want it that way..

    I agree.

I think love is an important component in a relationship but I agree the idea that it is all you need or even the most important thing is absolutely ridiculous.

Marriage is ultimately an agreement between men and women: easy sex in exchange for strong commitment. If, over time, one side or both fail to satisfy this agreement, the marriage will fail. Excuses will pop up like 'falling out of love' or 'growing apart' and so forth.

Not when it's an arrangement between two fathers about an 18 year old son and a 13 year old daughter.
