Is it normal to think funerals are waste of time and money?

I don't see a purpose in spending thousands of dollars and hours long services to bury someone. To me it is a financial and social burden. Though I'm not saying death isn't sad, it is and it sucks.

I don't understand the concept of the last goodbye either. I mean, they're dead. Is your crying over a corpse going to change anything? I would just want others to forget about me when I'm gone, get on with your life. I'm sure there are more beneficial things to do with your time.

And I doubt most the people who attend the funeral really cared about the person who died either. I am thinking of my grandmother's death, she died of dementia and half her friends never visited her while they had a chance, so why should they act like the care now?

    When I die I want to be cremated and have my ashes scattered somewhere sunny and nice. That's my only wish in death.

    I kinda hate the thought of my body being trapped in a claustrophobic box, even if it's dead.

    I agree about most funeral guests not caring though. My Dad died last year and it wasn't sudden, it was something we knew was coming for a long time. Did any of the "friends" who came to the funeral ever come to visit him, or even call, when he was housebound? Fuck no.

    I agree it is a huge waste of resources and if I burial is included a waste of land. A funeral is for those left behind.

    I've told my kids to cremate me, no service, and do whatever they want with the ashes. If people want to mourn me, they can do it however they like - my personal recommendation is a small gathering with lots of booze..

    I agree - I told my friends that if I die suddenly, cremate me, keep me in an urn, and next time they go somewhere fucking awesome (like mountain hiking or a super nice beach or something), take my ashes and toss em'.
