Is it normal to teach your kid leadership skills with migrant workers?

I hired some laborers near Home Depot and had my son, who is eight, direct them and tell them what to do (after I told my son what I wanted to do with the yard, of course). They were not happy that a little white kid was telling them what to do, but I told them there would be steady work for them in the future (there isn't).
