Is it normal to sue employer for pregnancy discrimination?

I was 8 months pregnant when they hired me and they didn't notice or say anything (I'm heavy) Now that I want to take paid maternity leave they said they can't afford it and will let me go if I'm out more than two weeks. It's a small mom/pop type convenience store. I talked to a lawyer and there's a good chance I will win the lawsuit. They will probably have to close their business.

Seriously? You're going to sue a convenience store for maternity leave?
Don't forget to put that on your resume' and good luck with your career in the future.

Wow, they offer paid leave? That is rare in the US.

    Is there a probationary period?

I don't know what country you are in but I'm not sure they owe you anything as a new hire. If anything, you can use FMLA for time off, but it sure as hell isn't paid.
