Is it normal to still feel affected by my lactose intolerance after 24 hours?

I have a serious issue that's been going on for a couple years. Over the past couple of months though, it seems to be getting worse. 2 days ago (Saturday morning), I wasn't sure as to what I ate, but I had to head to the bathroom. After spending about what it seemed like an eternity in there, I was finally out. Noticing that I left a large quantity in there... Today (Monday), in the morning, I've been really gassy and bloated. Is my intolerance getting worse by day? (Yes I do maintain a healthy diet and drink milk or consume diary products on a daily basis)

  • If you're lactose intolerance, stop consuming diary products. Don't make yourself suffer for nothing.

As a sufferer of lactose intolerance I must disagree with you! Being able to dip my wings in creamy blue cheese is not nothing! It is worth every discomfort! Every involuntary fart! Every damn one of them!

  • I have a problem if I consume too much dairy as well. I can't drink straight milk anymore but I can eat cheese in moderation every now and then. You might have to cut back on your dairy and see how you manage, if not quit eating dairy altogether.

I decided to buy the "green" cap milk (1%) and that didn't go well with my stomach or bowel movements. I would like to quit dairy altogether but I don't know what I should use for alternatives for things like cheese, ice cream, etc. Hopefully you have an idea, or perhaps I should ask my doctor.

      • If you are at the point to where you cannot tolerate even small amounts of cheese and the like, there are a few alternatives to choose from. An okay substitute for cheese is soy cheese. I was weary when I first tried it, but it is actually not that bad. And there are tons of non dairy spreads out there. I have found non-dairy ice cream, (I know it sounds weird as hell)and its just okay, you can definitely tell a difference. you can find all these alternatives at almost every grocery store. Also, avocado is a good substitute for mayo.

          • There is also rice milk and coconut milk. You can use your allergy as a advantage to eating really clean and healthy. Avocado is really good and good for you.

Neither my boyfriend or I can handle dairy. He uses almond milk and almond yogurt and I use soy milk and soy yogurt. There is also flax milk and hemp milk. Men want to avoid too much soy in their diet. The best nondairy cheese I've found is GoVeggie shreds.

I also can't have gluten and he is allergic to every fruit he's tried. It's inconvenient, but focus on what you can have and keep it healthy so you don't develop other problems from poor nutrition.
