Is it normal to still be in love with someone you only met briefly years ago

I am a Social Worker in a hospital and we have interns assigned to us from college...well, years ago there was one that I developed such strong feelings for that I literally got sick. I am a lot older and it was a student that I felt I had to stay professional so I never showed my feelings, but I still think about her all the time even though I only knew her for a few weeks

You should have kept in touch with her. Even if she didn't reciprocate your feelings towards you then at least you two could have stayed friends.

What kind of feelings are we talking about? Was she just very hot or did you actually get to know her? Are you single?

Whenever I need to let go of a fantasy (assuming that's what you want) I find it helps to simply think it through to the end. So what if you really got together? Could you have lived together? Are your lifestyles even compatible? What things would you talk about? What would the relationship be like in 10 years? Maybe aswering these questions, you realise you didn't really know her that well. Or maybe it's more the fantasy of her that you love. I don't know, maybe you really did love her.

In general I think yes, it's normal to feel that way about someone from years ago. The girls that interested me in the past get more beautiful the longer I haven't seen them. Because I only remember what I liked about them and forget all the rest.

    • She was young about 20.....I was 45....yes, single...we might have had a nice fwb situation...I doubt more than that as she was getting into the partying scene and that was the last thing I wanted...it seems we had a lot to talk about when we were together

Well, at least in that case it's not really a missed opportunity - More like a nice memory. But hey, that's one of the best things to have.
