Is it normal to stick to one type of painting method like only drawing anime?

I like to draw anime and manga characters and create characters of my own and am pretty good at that I have been told. But when someone asks me to draw something else I would find excuses to avoid it. like one time my father asked me to draw his portrait but I refused and to this day he still wishes I would draw one. is it normal to sticking to only one type of art work?? I want to try others to but am afraid they will turn out bad. Is it normal not to try it out??

You should at least try to paint in a different style once in a while.

If you really want to be an artist, many art schools will definitely reject you if all you draw is anime. But, if it's just a hobby and your career path has nothing to do with art then there's nothing wrong.

But there are good sites to help you learn other ways of drawing. I have been drawing since I was very young. When I was 6 I liked to draw bird people, when I was in my teen years I loved drawing anime ... but as I grew older and I realized art was my passion (mostly making comics), I realized quickly that only knowing anime was going to get me absolutely nowhere. It's good to know how to draw environments, and the best practise is just drawing what's in front of you until everything becomes second nature.

And the best thing about learning how to draw other things, and realistic anatomy, is that your anime-drawings will be 10x better, and you'd probably be able to make a really nice comic or something. : D

honestly I have never been to any art school of any type and I never hope to go there anytime soon. yes I have tried using different mediums like plastic crayons, oil pastels, poster and acrylic paints and so on. the thing is my entrance exam for architecture is coming up and it requires a bit different type od drawing skills. that is the reason I am concerned. I have started practicing a bit but I don't know if it will be any good stepping out.

I think it's totally normally to want to stick to one style, and to not want to go out of your comfort zone. (I completely understand... I have some similar issues with my art.) However, you might regret not trying new things sooner. You might discover a new love for a style or medium that you've never tried before. If you don't really know where to start I suggest an art class (make sure to find the right teacher!). Or you can even simply try your same style in different mediums (like paint, pastels, ect.) Get creative! :D

There's nothing wrong with what you're doing, but it's always good for an artist to explore different types of art. Create your own style. It makes you better :)

It's normal but it's not necessarily good for your development as an artist. You'll learn the most from trying lots of different things.

I fully understand where you are coming from. Try some other forms of art though because you never know. You may be underestimating your talents.

Yes, but it's good to do something different. Art teachers will even tell you to do things that are out of your comfort zone.
