Is it normal to stick my finger up my bum when i fart?

I mainly do this so I can smell it afterwards.
Also it stops the sound of it.

        That was a real question. I know if I were on the bus and saw someone stick their hands in their pants and wiggle them around for a little while I'd be a little wierded out XD
