Is it normal to "sink to the bully's level"

In the past I've been bullied for about a decade and was very passive with it. I didn't believe in violence or retaliating. Now, however, when somebody bullies me I have been told I "stoop to their level". I abuse back, and if it's really bad I tell them to kill themselves. And honestly, if there were no laws, I would do it for them (only if they're really evil).
I don't understand why I am the same level as this person. It's the difference between killing a civilian and a murderer.

Bullying a bully (as in throwing insults back at them) is somewhat immature and doesn't solve anything. Hitting someone in self-defense if they really try to hurt you is different though, sometimes it has to be done. And it is okay to call people out on their problematic behavior if you can be civil about it.

I sort of agree with you, on another level.
I don't understand why it is 'sinking to their level' to fight terrorists with their own tactics. I don't think they can be beat with 'due process' and legal rights that they don't subscribe to.
They do not operate within the rules of the Geneva Convention, so why do we feel we must? You can't win a football game if you play by baseball rules.
Or is it because the powers that be don't WANT to win? No wars, then there's less need for a huge military budget and more money to fix things like our infrastructure. What's wrong with that?
