Is it normal to see your cat when he isn't there?

I recently lost my cat. He isn't dead just lost, he usually comes back home but he didn't this time. I am hallucinating or seeing him when he isn't there. At chairs he sat and slept at, at any item thats the same color as him. It's freaking me out, whats weird is that I know he is coming home but people tell me otherwise. I'm not sad, I'm smiling and happy, and I'm not crying. I do miss him but I'm not worried. His birthday is tomorrow and he isn't back. Is this normal to see him when he isn't there?

    maybe he doesn't know that tomorrow is his birthday.

    Sure, it's easy to imagine something you're looking for.

    Incidentally I lost a cat recently too. Then he just showed up 3 days later. Other cats have been gone for even longer and still come back, so there's definitely reason to be hopeful.
