Is it normal to see a suitable job vacancy and really really want to get it?

Recently I've been quite disenchanted with my current role for various reasons, so I've been starting the hunt for a new job.

So anyway one of the first suitable positions I see - It just looks really good, near perfect for my skills and experience. So I applied last week.

And right now I'm really hoping I can get this - Or at least get an interview! is it normal or am I a bit desperate?

BTW it took over 7 months for me to get my current job [sure wasn't easy]. Maybe I just want avoid all that?

    It only makes sense to try for a better job when you have a job, so you aren't desperate and needy at the interview.
    One should always strive for better things in life, but stepping up is preferable to stepping off. Keep this job until you have a better one.

    There's nothing wrong with trying to better a situation. However, like someone else said, it might not be a good idea for you to tell your boss what you are doing. Only tell him that you are leaving IF/WHEN you get the job.

    I'm in the same boat. I've actually job hopped a lot because my original career went away. I took temp jobs for a while, and got by on PT jobs. I landed a FT job and have had it about 15 months, but I miss a job I used to have so I wrote to that old boss, and I'm waiting to hear. I also applied for a job I took classes to do a couple of years ago, but never landed a job in it. I would be so excited if I got that one also. In fact, I might be able to do one FT and one PT. And I think either job would have benefits if it was FT. I don't have bennies now.
