Is it normal to remember things from when i was one years old?

I can remember being one years old. Other things when I was little too like my third birthday party, when I was potty trained, a whole lot when I was really little. Is that normal? Has anyone else remembered a lot at such a young age?

I also remember things from that age in my lifetime but I can't recall what was said a lot more the feeling and surroundings. I wouldn't have been able to understand what was said anyway...

  • I remember being that young too but it doesn't seem that common. I asked this question here before and I will say be prepared for people to say you are lying or delusional.
The fact is some people can remember things earlier than most people do. I believe I have been able to hold onto these early memories by keeping photos, videos and eventful items which have given me reminders of times around those things as well. Also I have always made a conscious effort to try to remember. Little kids are often able to remember things from earlier than adults do. I have advised kids I have talked to how they can remember these things as they grow up by regularly reminding themselves of the events.
What is strange is while I remember being a baby, I often cannot think of what I just did yesterday or even recall a movie I just watched sometimes.

Be careful: short term memory going & long term memory still intact or improving - could be dementia!

Phew - how do you cope with that? Sounds difficult to live with. I find ordinary old boring depression bad enough, I have great admiration for people with serious illnesses who manage to cope, even if it's not all of the time

I remember my own birth. It was so traumatic. I couldn't even speak for a whole year after

Normal I myself have memories from when I was 2 1/2 to 3yo old, I always thought I wasn't normal and that I was the only one. But hey guess what....btw it's called photogenic memory I've Googled it. Not very many people have it.

When I was in my early 40's I remembered an incident that happened when I was 19 months old, which changed my whole view of myself, my family and the world.

I have had people (including one shrink) say it's impossible to remember events from that early. Well I did, and so do you, so don't worry about it unless the memories bother you for some reason.
