Is it normal to remember/still bothered by awkward situations over 1 year ago?

Super awkward situations with a college instructor (that I enjoyed taking a class with) I had the quarter after I took their class:

1. Standing by the door and making eye contact with the teacher(who was surprised to see me and slowly looking down.

2. Seeing teacher talking to someone and not interrupting them as I walked by.

3. Walking behind a person who teacher was talking to, in their line-of-sight, knowing that they saw me, without looking in their direction.

4. Holding a door open, I look back and saw the teacher walking by while turning their head away from me. I turn around and walk away.

5. We walked toward each other from the opposite directions. I can see by the time I get close enough, the teacher would be out of sight, however, they suddenly take a detour to throw something away in the trash and by that time I'm close to them, they turn around to look me dead in the eyes with a neutral face before walking away.

If this happened to you, how long would it bother you?

Good grief yes! Awkward situations that occurred many years ago still bother me. My mind will start to wander around in the Labyrinth of Memories and it'll replay all of those horribly awkward situations that I really would like to forget. When I think about them it makes me feel so embarrassed and frustrated at myself for letting the situation become awkward. Then, I'll start to panic about what the person I was being awkward with and the people around us were thinking. Ah!

I think you are too self conscious and that's what's making these moments awkward for you. I can remember being like that as a teenager. Try not to think about it, think about other things, more constructive things and eventually your confidence will allow new moments to happen that make the awkward ones pale in comparison.

I didn't get it. But yes, many times I do remember awkward situations from years before and feel just as embarrassed by the memory as I did at the moment (maybe even more).

Yeah but it might sound like you have a little crush on her ;) that's probably what's making them so memorable.

Yes its normal to still be a little embarrassed by past happenings. In all honesty a lot of people are. Its nothing to be ashamed of, we're all just a little self conscious.

Don't worry, you are just a bit self-conscious, like me. I'm always worrying about stuff that I have done in the past that still bothers/ embarrasses me to this day.

I believe, it is only awkward if you 'make' it awkward.
I have been in plenty of awkward situations, but in hindsight it was only awkward because I felt slightly 'vulnerable' you could say. That 'vulnerability' created anxiety, and the anxiety created a tense 'awkward' moment.
Try to stop caring maybe? =]

Hell, awkward situations from 40 years ago still bother me, but I realized that it was part of my obsessive-compulsive behavior. You need to put things into perspective, and also look at what other things in your life you obsess over.
