Is it normal to quit your job spontaneously

I quit my work experience unpaid job this morning. I texted my employment consultant to tell her and now I think she might be mad at me. I reread her text wrong I thought it said are you there yet but it actually said are you going in today. I replied not yet. I think she might've drove into the work experience place to check up on me but I would not have been there since I decided to quit. I'm seeing her this Thursday and I'm now a bit nervous about Thursday now.

She now has to explain to the place were you were working why you didn't show up and that makes her look bad.

  • They weren't even paying you? Fuck that. I would have quit before I started.

Eek! It's a work experience job, designed to provide someone with an unpaid job opportunity to put on the resume before they enter the real workforce, so they can have experience. ..lol, this can't look good- leave it off your resume, OP!

      • It's very discriminating to not pay your employees. I would have that place shut down if I were president.

Internships are pretty common in America

          • I know but I don't think it's right.

I used to be in a program called DVR and which is made to help people get jobs but they expect people with disabilities to work for free for a while, which is discrimination.

Some of the employees never make it through the program and are therefore never paid.

I worked at goodwill too for a while and the employees were paid minimum wage and there were people working there for over 25 years on the same pay.

I find it very discriminating and taking advantage of people with health problems.

I very much agree with you, bugs, with regard to the situation you are talking about- seems like out and out exploitation.

However, there's quite a few kids in my country that graduate highschool and attend college with an air of superiority- getting some experience in the real world workforce, where you actually have to put in some effort, answer to people, learn how to defer, and get smacked with not having wages- well, it does WONDERS in terms of humility, and ultimately is invaluable in terms of character and learning the value of real work (now, I'm talking kids who don't need the income).

Because they are still doing something useful. Why should my store manager get paid he does not one thing (except eat donuts).
btw I have a friend who is doing an internship and she gets paid minimum wage. I personally think unpaid internship should not be allowed.
Technically since youre not even an employee, it can be difficult to take legal action if something happens, like an injury or harassment. Interns have been getting no respect long before Monica Lewinsky...

It was an internship for experience. Why should an intern get paid if they don't have the skills for the job in the first place?
