Is it normal to perpetuate a lie for years

I just don't get it.
Y'all are perfectly willing to accept that I'm 68 years old. Y'all are perfectly willing to believe I'm the biggest asshole on IIN, and just maybe believe I've got a young wife, but when it comes time to believing I am retired and live on a boat in the Caribbean, fuck that shit, thegypsysailor is a big fat liar.
What in the world would I gain by perpetuating a lie such as that for over two years? Where is there any plus to it? Just the amount of record keeping it would take to keep it all straight for over two years would be astronomical. I may be retired, but come on now guys, I really do have better things to do than hoodwink all of you.
So either I am exactly who I have been saying I am, doing exactly what I've been saying I'm doing or I am one pretty damn smart cookie to keep this lie going, without a single inconsistency, for over two years.
Is it normal?

    I'm sure there are many on the internet who would create and maintain a fake life for several years, but I'd place the probability of you doing so at about 5-10 percent.
    To be honest, the people that do claim you're lying probably don't do it because they don't believe you, but simply to take the mick out of you.

        I actually think you are the most genuine person on this site. You are not afraid to speak your mind and tell it like it is and fuck what anyone thinks about you. That is why people hate you, but that's not your problem. You may not always be right, sometimes you are comically wrong. But honest? Absolutely.

    By some of your answers I feel uncertain if you're a man or a woman. Sometimes I wonder if you're a couple, both using the same account. I wouldn't blame that on you though, as I've never been a detail oriented person so I often miss things that others would pick up on right away. I have noticed that you're not too big to admit when you might have been wrong. I admire that in a person. Happy sails to you!

    I don't believe you're lying. While some of your advice had been a bit off the mark, you usually give good solid stuff. You're pretty honest about who you are(unlike some of the people I ran into on here) and all those stories you told on here are too awesome to be lies. You rock!
