Is it normal to only hate your voice when recorded with a close-by microphone?

I've always hated my voice. I know that this is not an uncommon thing to feel. However, I've noticed that when my microphone is further away than the three/four centimeters it normally is, I'm actually quite happy with it. A lot of the nasality and plosive sounds seem to be gone, which, as it turns out, is the biggest reason I hate it. I've tried it out by recording my voice on my phone and I also do not mind my voice there.

Can there be such a significant difference by moving it just a few centimeters? Which is the voice people tend to hear?

It's normal, most people aren't used to hearing how their own voices sound.

From experience, different microphones make your voice sound different than it really is, and yes it can be affected by distance.
Why, do you work with microphones? Are you a singer or youtuber or spokesperson or something?
I would just learn to like my voice the way it is. If you're too immature for that, you can get voice therapy classes that can change the way you sound.
