Is it normal to notice women acting weird around me in public?

I was in my college library looking for information on employers who were currently hiring and I went up to the help desk there were 2 college aged girls working behind the counter and they were having a conversation between themselves about something. As I walked toward them I noticed they stopped talking and got all quiet. I approached the less attractive one and asked her if she could help me. She looked a little flustered and said that she couldn't help me but that I should ask the librarian sitting on the other side of the hallway, and then for some reason out of nowhere she decided to mention that there was going to be a party tonight. Suddenly the other more attractive girl behind the desk decided to "help" me out by repeating exactly what the first girl just told me. I had also noticed her staring at me the whole time while I was talking to the first girl. Anyway after thanking them both I approached the librarian, who was a hot blonde woman with dark green eyes and she looked to be in her early forties. She finally pointed me in the right direction and provided me with helpful resources, and as she was writing down a website on a sticky note her fingers "accidentally" brushed against my outstretched hand, she was touching her hair, and also making intense eye contact with me. And as I was walking out of the library some other girl who I also don't know asked me if I had any gum? This was all very weird to me.
