I believe the children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way. Show them all the beauty they possess inside. Give them a sense of pride to make it easier. Let the children's laughter remind us of how we used to be.

It's because they're not old enough to be able to fend for themselves, unlike others who can or had the opportunity to.
I treasure them more because they haven't made the same mistakes as us. They're innocent. And for some reason I feel like I'm partly accountable that they don't end up like us.

In my not so humble and biased opinion I would surmise that you're jealous of the love, affection, attention and protection that society shows children. You were once a child yourself just like everyone else. I wouldn't be surprised if you've suffered abuse and neglect in your youth which would logically fuel any jealously, because you didn't get what you needed as a child.
I could be wrong, but...
