Is it normal to not notice someone go from l to s?

My friend is really upset because she lives with her family and although I and her other friends have all noticed her weight loss, her family didn't. She lost 50 pounds in 5 months and went from a L to a S. I think she started at 175 pounds at 5'4 and is now 125.

It's quite obvious because her legs are now slim when before they were chunky, her arms are thin when before they were chunky and her face is very thin as well. It's very obvious..I just don't know what to tell her. is it normal for family not to notice? She says she wears baggy t-shirts when she is home with family most of the time but not all the time.

is it normal for them not to notice?

  • Something I have noticed for me is I do not usually notice when I see someone gradually change. If I see someone every day for a year while they lose or gain 80 pounds I probably wont even notice because each day they look the same as yesterday. However if i had not seen them all year and then see them with the weight change I will likely notice.

It is odd that her family doesn't seem to notice or care. They should be supportive and happy for her. Is her relationship with them good or bad. I never heard one good thing from my family about any thing I did that was good. It makes you feel that you are invisible and not worthy of their care and attention. That is a lot of weight to lose and it has to be obvious. I know she has to notice their disinterest in her life.

    • I know she's not super close with them. Yeah because was mildly obese before and had a belly and now she's thinner than me so I'm like damn...
