Is it normal to not know what to do with your life when you are 27 yo??

I am 27 yo and until now i do not have a job.I did work at an event management company for a while but quit to pursue a career in the Government services.I spent 2 years pursuing this and the final results were out yesterday and i dint make the cut.

All my friend have years of work experience by now whereas i am stuck without a job, unable to find my passion, suffering mildly from anti-anxiety medicine withdrawal.

I probably could enlighten you about any major event that is happening across the globe as my last two years of studying was focused on that, but unfortunately my employers do not care about all that stuff.

So, my question is has anyone been in a similar state before or did you all land good jobs right after college and had it all figured out before 25 years of age?

Thank you for your time!

I know what I'd do with my life. Trouble is..
Everyone wants to do something else with it.

I am 27 too and feel your pain. Although I have a job - which took me about 6-8 months to get out of college - I am so UN-passionate about it. When I see people living their lives to the max, traveling or having a job that they love I get a bit jealous and wonder how I can make my life more fulfilling. I know that I should be thankful for what I have, and I am, but I cant help but want more or ....... well something......passion. I thought buying a house would make a difference ...... but it didn't...... then I thought maybe if I got this, or that.... then I realized that what I want are not materials but experiences. I know that I can only change my outlook myself, and my job is what I make of it....... but.... urghh.

So I feel you. Someone told me recently that you should be more "mindeful" that is, living for that particular moment, feeling the now instead of constantly thinking about tomorrow or when you can get this or that. I agree with this as I am learning I am almost never mindeful. When I drive to work I am not enjoying the drive, I am thinking about where I'm going and what I need to do when I get there; therefore I am rushing myself all the time and yell at any other driver who gets in my way.

I need to get out of my cycle just as you need to get out of yours. I don't know how tho...... its alot of tying and failing and trying again. Im glad you took a chance at something you wanted though; rather than myself....I'm too chicken shit. Good luck :)

Well my advice to you since you already have a job is to figure out a way how you can be more productive. There must be some avenue which you havent explored yet or could contribute more too. Go that extra mile.

Although what bugs me the most is the ease at which everyone else is going about their life : /

Thanks. Yeah its true that it seems like everyone makes it look easy. One of my goals for 2012 is to do exactly what you recommended, hopefully with good results :)

Maybe you could go back to college and get another degree.

i'm 25 and almost done with a masters degree. i know what field i want to work in but i have no idea what career i want to do. pursue things that seem interesting to you and eventually you'll find your passion. even if someone is doing one thing now, it doesn't mean they'll be doing it for the rest of their life. good luck!

Sounds to me like you need a change of location to find something that inspires you...
