Is it normal to not be able find security job with a bunch of certificates?

I am having problems finding work. I spent 400 dollars getting a guard card and 10 certificates. Its been 6 months and I still cant find anything. I don't get what I am doing wrong. No one even calls back for an interview.

Are you physically suitable for a security job? Not sure if it matters (I've seen some guards who I wouldn't consider suitable) but could that be part of it?

Been looking into further education myself & this is one of the reasons I'm not 100% sure about going through with it.
Unfortunately qualifications & certificates don't guarantee jobs.

IMO you're lucky that you only spent $400, imagine if you'd spent thousands at college or something...

Obviously keep looking & good luck!

    • No I am pretty sure that is not why as I have not gotten an interview so they are going by resume/app.

OK, it most likely comes down to supply & demand then...

Ugh my husband has a college degree and lots of experience and it took him a long time to get hired as a security guard. The place he works wants people with either a college degree or police experience. Bleh.

With police forces laying off as they are today, you are going up against professionals and as an inexperienced potential employee, you don't have much of a shot against them. I think if you need a job, you might want to look in another field for a few years. It's not like you have actually worked as a security guard, right?

    Maybe your CV/Resume needs improving.

I don't know, that sounds weird but maybe because it doesn't require an education? I feel like jobs that don't require education/degrees are easier to get in so many people take them up. Maybe there are many candidates and it's harder for you because of that? How many times have you filled out a job application in the past 6 months?
