Is it normal to not admit you messed up (but it was victimless)?

So there was a big mystery this morning and it turns out it was something stupid that I did and forgot about. I realized it and fixed it without anybody noticing but I am not planning on telling anybody that I made a stupid mistake. If it had hurt anyone I would come clean but since it was a victimless error I am not saying a word. IIN?

This is actually the second time a practically identical mistake has happened, the first one I got caught after a few days of there being a mysterious smell.

      It was just the trimmings that I put in foil and cooked up for my pets. I intended to grab it after dinner but I forgot. The rest got eaten though!

      No. The first time we kept smelling a dead animal every time we went outside and it ended up being some chicken I accidentally left on the bbq grill. This time we kept smelling propane so we thought there was a gas leak in town or somebody's house was going to explode but really it was because I didn't turn the bbq propane all the way off so it was stinking up our front yard. I realized what I had done and went and turned the grill off without anybody noticing and it is going to be my secret. No one will ever know why the yard smelled like farts.

        You are correct that accidentally leaving a chicken outside and it getting all gross is on the same level as almost blowing up your neighborhood

          Don't be dramatic. It wasn't nearly enough gas to explode outdoors. I even stood right by it and had a cigarette before I figured out my little mistake.

        Methane smells like farts. If your farts smell like propane you have some kind of illness.
