Is it normal to love vanilla ice cream?

okay so i am English and i love vanilla ice cream, but ever since i moved to america, people laugh at me when i say i like vanilla ice cream the most. i asked a friend of mine and he said that vanilla ice cream was gay, and i just looked at him like he was the dumbest person alive, which he just might be. so i wanna know is this normal for Americans, to think that there's something silly about vanilla flavored ice cream, or is this normal all around the world and i just never came across it before

I'm not really a frozen dessert person (if I had to pick I'd eat sorbet), but real vanilla ice cream is one of the best.
All these 'triple chocolate caramel fudge ripple with toffee chunks' gross me out.. Guess that's most of America though.
