Is it normal to love someone you aren't allowed to be with?

I'm in love with a man who feels the same way... But my parents doesn't like him for me, they try to break any contact I have with him. I don't understand what they don't like about him, he respects me, he is loyal to me, and he never did anything that can hurt me. We have to secretly meet each other because my parents would get furious if they found out. But I'm 20 years old I'm technically old enough to make decisions... But I felt threatened by my parents and I don't want the man I love struggling because of them... I guess it's kinda like Romeo and Juliet... What should I do?

  • There has to be a reason for why they're not liking you being with him so you should ask them why.

Regardless, you're 20 years old, you have every right to see who you want to see and your parents don't get to choose. Sure they can be upset by it but they have no right to prevent you from seeing who you want.

Ofcourse, it all changes if you're seeing someone who's underage or other not so great things, then I can 100% support the parents in this but I really doubt that's the case.

  • Your old enough to make your own decisions. Tell your parents to fuck off.

Isn't it all fucked up that parents feel that they should try to help their kids not make the same mistakes they made? Fuck them, right?

Here's what I say: be friends, get a job or finish school whatever you are doing, BOTH of you have a stable income, be ready to move out, and tell your parents Fuck Off! It's your life. You can be with whoever you want to. My mom had this exact same thing happen to her with her parents and my dad.

That's the best advice you are going to get. There's love and then there is the real world. If you can manage both, great; but love does not survive if the real world cannot be managed first. Look at the divorce rates by economic classes. Povery takes a serious toll on that good ole love.
