Is it normal to love someone, but think that you can get something better?

This is a personal experience. I have been in a few relationships in the past. In some of them I felt really infatuated with the other person. I could totally say that I felt real love at some point. However, at the same time, I was always also thinking that it was not "it", that I could find something better.

According to my friends, if you think that you can find someone better while in a relationship, then you can't really love someone else. But for me, love can happen even in imperfect scenarios. So... what do you people think? Is it normal?

I think that's a horrible outlook to have with relationships. Half the reason you're with an individual is because you have shared experiences. If you're relationships as a stepping stones rather then just enjoying them, you're in for a depressing love life.

It depends, you're young so it may be too early to judge, but if the pattern of always looking for someone better continues then your friend may very well be right.

Yeah, sadly, it's normal. We're spoonfed romance by the media, you're looking for a perfect love which for most people simply doesn't exist. It's hard to keep relationships going in this world of social media, online dating and romantic movies - but for the sake of your future happiness, try to learn to be satisfied with what you've got.

"According to my friends, if you think that you can find someone better while in a relationship, then you can't really love someone else. " This is 100% true. I dated about 9 guys before and 2 of them lasted a year or more. With those, I thought I was in love but noticed sometimes I had a wandering eye or would think I could do better. When I found the right guy (the guy I'm with now), I never looked at anyone else again because I am 110% satisfied as there is no better man out there for me, he's perfect to me.

You're infatuated, I was too and I didn't realize it fully until after.

That is not love. Not even close.
When you're in love, it's the opposite feeling. You can't get any better. You've reached the epitome. Sorry but you haven't been in love.

You said it yourself - it's infatuation. Maybe when you realize you're truly in love you won't have that same feeling anymore.

You might miss the moon while looking for stars.
