Is it normal to love someone but never tell them?

I'm beginning to wonder what if my boyfriend will never tell me he loves me. He's closed-off when it comes to feelings and he jokes around and acts silly to avoid being serious. Does he show me that he loves me? Hahah not really actually...but he tries to justify his actions should represent how strong he feels about me. I've been wanting to tell him I love him since like the first day I met him (lol) but obviously that would be creepy. But now, I think it is a good time to tell him without looking crazy. The thing is...what will he say? I'm not afraid of getting rejected. Honestly, if he doesn't feel the same way, I'm not mad because I think for him, it takes a lot to feel that way and two, his actions don't portray he loves me. So I'd be a little more concerned if he did say it back as opposed to not saying it back just cause I would feel like he felt pressured to say it back and it wouldn't be authentic. So when he finally feels it, and who knows maybe he already feels it but can't say it, will he ever tell me? I remember we were texting and he said "I'm xyz" and I asked "are you my xyz" and he responded "yes I am" in a different language lol as if he is scared to say it straight up. I woudn't be surprised if he did that saying "I love you" or in another weird way.
