Is it normal to love a culture you've no connection with??

I love anything Australian. esp. the accent on men, when their voices are really gravelly. It drives me mad. Seen some tv series /films from there which are stunning. A family friend lived over there for yrs. I've had a koala toy since I was young, I used to feed him leaves in the hope he'd turn real, he never did.

I love all the legends of the spirits of the land. There was a certain thing I used to say as a child that is actually an Aboriginal word, and my parents used to look at me like I was mad. It wasn't in any of my books, & I didn't grow up with the internet so there's no way I could've known or researched anything. Said family friend told me that 1 of my mum's distant relatives was a convict who was deported to Australia. I've an Australian penpal, who even looks like me when I had long hair!

Flatmates tease me about my “Aussie fetish”

is it normal to like a culture you've no connection to ??

Yep. Pretty normal to be fascinated with something you don't really know. I just love culture in general.

    G'day mate ;)

You mentioned the accent on Australian men and also aboriginal words. But obviously these two races have different accents and traditions.
Australia is a multicultural country. Basically any person of any race can reside in Australia and become a citizen. This helps the government continue to keep Australia safe from wars (on Australia soil) and helps keep racism out.

The US have a slightly different tradition. Of being extremely patriotic plus also continuously implying that Americans are right and all others should follow suit. The concern is this is not humanitarian, and thus causes conflicts with other countries.

The Aussie (stereotypically)women in Australia are traditionally brown skin, blond hair, short shorts and singlets or similar, plus full of life and beach partying. So I can understand your fetish for the men, as the women are hot :D
