Is it normal to lose your sense of smell with a sinus/ear infection?

I had a cold last week and thought it went away, then I got a nasty sinus infection and one in my ear. I cant smell anything at all, or taste. Ive been on antibiotics for 3 days and the sinus part is a bit better... how long does it take to get your sense of smell back?

Your sense of taste is dependant on smell, so they'll come back together. These senses go away when inflammation causes your nasal passages to constrict during illness. As soon as your immune response to the infection is complete, your inflammation will subside and your senses will return. Since you are going through a doctor, the matter is probably being handled competently, and this minor ailment should effect you for a fairly short amount of time, say a week. If your symptoms are still occurring next week, then a call to the doctor for additional testing may be warranted.
