Is it normal to lose faith in god??

I've been Catholic my entire life. I think it was when I was about 8 that I started to question religion. Like, is their *really* a God? I'm 23 now, and I'm really considering just dropping religion all together. But at the same time, I really want to have faith that there is a God, and that there is a Heaven, but I just don't know anymore.

God is real. I dont care what people say.

These atheist dont want to put faith into something. And they really should try.

    Most Christians are nice people.

A few Atheist try to twist what Christians are for. A few atheist think Christians are about killing people, blah blah blah. Thats obviously not true.

They also dont understand God, and think God has to cater to everybody on the planet. Which he does not. This is why we have free-will. God is not killing anybody lol. People are killing each other.

Christians believe in morales. Doesnt mean they're automatically better than anybody. But focusing your attention to bettering yourself is a good thing.

Okay, as an atheist, I feel the need to make a few clarifications.

      1. While some may grow up nonreligious, most don't, and often go through their own (typically private) path of deconversion. I wasn't even raised to be overtly religious, but it was a hard thing for me to go through. Try as I may, I simply couldn't believe that stuff.

      2. I concur, most Christians are really nice people, as are most people in general. And do I (personally) think religious people are for killing people by nature? No, and neither would most. Often, the "killing people" criticism is more about the texts, not the people. Think of opposing a sin vs opposing a sinner!

      3. God is often described as omnibenevolent, meaning he would have infinite capacity to love mankind, so he'd naturally always act in their best interests, right? Many, however, don't think a lot of things in the world correlate with this. And people in general believe in morals, through one rendition or another. Are they always exactly the same? Nope! Often, they can even be as much as warped in the public's view. But everyone's got their own code to go by.

Sorry if I was a bit too concise with this, as it's a complex topic that a lot of discussion can arise from. I tried my best, though!

      Best wishes!

        1. Yeah I understand thats how it is for probaley most atheist these days.
N I dont know why it would be a hard thing. It shouldve been a good experience. Even though I know not everybody is gonna get a good experience.
Should be for most people though.

        2. Thats good to know that you think that way. There are nice atheist too.
True most people arent for killing. But you definately have an atheist here or there who think Christians are evil or some shit

        3. Morales are morales. I dont know how they can be different.
Christianity, Islam and Judaism are ALL against homosexuality. I think they all would be for some reason. If you think about it, there has to be SOME reason why all three of these religions would be against it.

        4. N I understand that some atheist think that because of wars, God doesnt care. Because apparently the only way God can be good, is if he caters to everybody on earth and helps them. But like I said, he doesnt have to. In fact he has a good reason why he doesnt automatically help everybody.
Because if he did help everybody it would expose him. And he wants to remain a mystery. For another good reason.
Because if everybody knew God existed then everybody would believe in him, and some people would be fake and pretend to be good just so they could try to cheat into heaven, while still doing immorale things.
He wants people to put faith into him. Because if you're willing to believe in him, then it should be more likely that you're actually gonna follow what he says.

a brain doesnt like it if it doesnt understand something.
thats why relegion is so populair.
it gives a explanation, but when you start thinking for yourself you have achieved something a lot of people will never experience

I do think for myself. Yet I still believe in religion. What do you have to say to that?

i dont say you are wrong, i say that you chose too follow other peoples ideas, but i dont like following people blindly on faith because the nsdap did the same in ww2

what im trying to say is:find out for yourself if god is real why it is real, and how does he work.
        instead of listning to others.
before you say it is real or not, give me evidence so i can see what you see.
send your evidence than too me
religion and science can go hand in hand

Believe me, Im smart enough to make the right decision if I want to

I dont just follow what anybody says. The reason I follow God and Jesus is because they're filled with love. God really does care about people, even if it doesnt seem like it.

Like I said, you have to put faith into God, you cant always know that he exist. It's just something you have to trust.
Because if there IS really a God, and he's good and loving, then why wouldnt you want to try and believe in him?

how do you know he is filled with love, while he created a world where their was genocide on his own people.
a world where people murder and rape?
god cant be all good if it created a world of hate.
then you also have the "god gave us free will" argument.
its apparently a childs free will to die of cancer.
or did god want a child to die(because he isnt all good).
the reason why i dont believe is every time a new argument is made and the creator said(god told me that..etc)
            someone else can disprove it.
even religious people disprove each other.
religion used to be multiple gods until people said let there be one god.
oh btw if god is loving then the crusades(crusades included genocide) where a act of love right?

Patience iis a virtue son. Go to the Church, attend the Sunday prayers and feel the power within. God is there, he is the master of life and death, how else can you explain death son, when the soul leaves your body and returns to God. The should and the mind are one, the soul is like a computer software while body is the hardware. Have faith in God, have faith in Jesus. God has been there since the beginning of time, he created each and everyone of us, many prophesies predicted in the Bible have come true. So be patient son, and wait and see. Seek salvation.

You were created by two ape like creatures fucking. God was created by feeble minded people who can't accept their existence doesn't matter.

Where is proof of the second statement? Maybe God created those fucking ape men through the process of evolution.

I explain death the same way I explain a robot breaking; something is physically wrong with it. When your computer doesn't boot does that mean that the computer god(otherwise known as Alan Turing) called it's soul back to computer heaven?

Thats just your perception son, you can't prove it, you cannot change facts from a divine book like the Bible known for centuries. A doctor named Duncan MacDougall once used an experiment to determine whether souls exists or not. He asked an ailing tuberculosis patient to measure his weight shortly before his death, and then he measured his weight shortly after his death. Alas, it weighted 20 grams less, just search about it on the net. So its proven both religiously and medically. Seek salvation!

I have a peer who mentioned the same experiment prior. However, these results would imply some odd things. Mainly, the soul is implied to be corporeal, as well as it having mass. This is an odd assertion, given that the soul is often portrayed and described as intangible. Also, if it were to have substance, how would it leave the body? And after that? Could we trap a bunch of soul in a mason jar? It just seems to me that the implications are rather odd.

In addition, I mean no disrespect; that'd go against site rules. I just feel like discussion is something worth engaging in.

Personally I dont believe in a religion in any form, including atheism, as all groups collect money and push their ideals, rather than just believing in your beliefs, and not bothering others...

That is what bothers me so much about those folks who are so hard pressed to spread their ideals, even to those who they have 0 chance with...

Well when your religion believes that you have nothing to answer for i can see why you would.

    "Jesus died for our sins"

    What a crock of shit.

Sure it's normal and to be expected. There is no evidence of a god, the bible endorses some really evil shit. It's not surprising at all that a person would question the existence of a god like that.

There is no "normal" when it comes to religion. Based upon what you are saying, I will say this: you can be spiritual yet not religious. Hope this helps.
