Is it normal to lose a friends respect for being sympathetic and open minded?

Well first off im agnostic. I am not going to say without a doubt such things don't exist but I am highly skeptical. People have difficulty figuring out what I am since I don't seem to swing either way.

If I say something about science religious people jump to the conclusion I must be atheist and if I defend a religious person I get told off for being Christian. Even though none of these people have any REAL idea of what I actually follow.

However we were having a discussion and I was saying god is possible and that people are not stupid for believing in one. Our Christian friend was their and I was trying to be more sympathetic to them as they were losing their faith.

However when I did this they seemed to lose complete respect of my apparently atheist friend who now regards me as a moron. Is it normal to hate someone for being open minded and sympathetic.

All you can do is get up everyday and do the best you can with what you've got and that's all anyone can do.

Well, i've learned that it's easyer to just defend if it's important. If their makeing fun of this guys belife, then just make everyone hate you, then their too busy hating you, to hate them. As much as before. Honestly it's easy. I'm very easly hated.

The people that get bent out of shape when you say the "opposite" of what they believe are having doubts within themselves about what they believe.
It's why most people find comfort surrounding themselves with people of similar beliefs, It justifies their view within their mind. They're need to be "right". If their view is never questioned, then it must be correct.
People find comfort in ignorance (what you don't know can't hurt you....or make you question, or make you think)

i dont really know much about the agnostic belifes but from what it seems you look at everything from every point of view i can respect that i dont belive in god that much but i alway tred light around people of the christian beliefs because they do get sensitve i cant seem to understand why your atheist friend got so upset with you though usually though when it comes to religious arguments i try to avoid its way to touchy of a subject even though you intentions seemed good
