Is it normal to live in an area for over five years and have no friends at all?

I have had to move around due to employment but I am now in a steady full-time job. I work, go to school and also go to social places. I have absolutely no friends in the area at all. I go out and try to be social but no luck. I have hobbies that I like but no one to do them with and no one where I live is interested in them. I tried Facebook and other social networking sites but no success. Is this normal to be this odd balled out in a decent sized city?

    Sorry to hear that dude, try getting to know some people you work with and see if they want to spend time doing things outside of work.

    I grew up in the same town, I only have 2 people I consider to be a friend. I'm 21 now, 21 years in the same town with only 2 people as my friends, I'd say its normal.

    It's hard to find the right type of people you want as a good friend, just make sure when you find the person / people make sure you don't let go so easy :P

    I live in the same area for 18 years and I have no friends from here, so I guess it is normal... All my friends live far away from home :(

    Surely there are clubs near where you live that interest you? A gym at least?
