Is it normal to limit yourself to 1000 calories a day?

I only let myself eat 1000 calories a day, preferably less. I'm trying to lose weight. I don't get very much exercise. I basically only get it from walking to and from class every day, and my classes are only about a mile away.

Actually that will work against you. Limiting calories like that will put your body into 'starvation mode', making it hold every scrap it can. Losing weight with that method will be hard, and the lack of food can only hurt you. Research it, don't take my word.

You need to ask a professional. It depends on your height, current weight, desired weight, medical history, etc.

    Best of luck.

Its better to exercise more rather than eat less, you will look all floppy and not toned. Also it matters more what you eat rather than how many calories. If you eat mostly protein an fiber you will lose a lot more weight than if you eat lost of carbs.

Whatever you do, don't starve yourself become obsessed with losing weight. It will lead you to a dark, twisted, and unhealthy place. I know.

I really think that it would be a good idea to consult a professional on this, whether it be your primary physician or a nutritionalist.

It depends on your age and height. If you're an adult of average height, about 5'5", then you need to be consuming a minimum of 1200 calories daily. Going under this will cause your body to go into starvation mode and can actually make you gain weight.

Depends on age, gender and weight.

That's low. It would be normal for someone very short with very little muscle mass.

Everyone has a different calorie intake and reaction to eating more or less. I consider it normal since many do it, too.
