Is it normal to like hearing people, but dislike interacting with people?

I like to be around people and hear them talking to each other, since I think their conversations and opinions are interesting. However, I don't like talking to them myself. I have this conundrum where I think it would be fun to walk around in a populated area and people-watch, but I dread the possibility that someone might want to talk to me. I'm not a good conversationalist, so these exchanges are rarely exciting or comfortable for either person.

People skills are just like any other skill. It comes with practice. Don't be afraid, most people don't mind when you're shy or awkward - That's cute. We just don't like talking to self absorbed douchebags. Plus you already have the most important quality for a good conversation: Listening.
If you really are interested in what others have to say, I have no doubt you'd be an awesome person to talk to.

This is one of the most normal human traits. I've never felt comfortable having conversations with people too, except for my friends. But I make an outward appearance that I like talking to them and pretend that I am confident and smile. But on the inside I just feel so uncomfortable. I used to think it was just me but it happens with lots and lots of people as I have found out.

No one is forcing you to interact. You could just stare at them like you have aspergers.
