Is it normal to know more about another persons country who live there?

I have seen this happen before. Generally in these cases people might assume whoever was born in that country is automatically right. However I have seen people from outside certain countries prove people living there wrong. So I was wondering how normal is this?

Its normal if the native of the country is ignorant and uneducated, yes. When I was growing up in Texas my Colombian uncle had better grammar than the white trash, rednecks. This is because my uncle is an educated person. I dated a German graduate student from the University of Houston for a few months and it was the same way with him.

Depends on what you mean by knowing more. There are different kinds of knowledge. Obviously people how live in a country know alot about day-to-day life there. I mean mundane details what time a grocery store typically opens, or what kind of weather to expect in early spring. It would be unusual for a foreigner to have a better grasp of such things.

But if you mean things like history more than a generation ago, or laws that people don't use every day, then it's hardly surprising at all.
