Is it normal to just stop participating in general customs and expectations?

I decided to refuse to go through with the standard expectations people generally have of others in general. I figured, I hate small talk and I don't give a shit about 99% of the people I encounter day to day so why should I play the game anymore?

Now I pretend to not know things that people expect you to know, like what Easter is, what year it is or other such stuff. I give completely outrageous answers to simple questions. "How long have you lived here?"..."Oh this trailer has been in my family for a thousand years". I'll even tell people they don't exist when they try to talk to me. "How do I not exist? I'm right here talking to you."...."Right where? I don't see you." They get mad.

    • What the heck is a 24/7? Is that some kind of racial slur? Why don't you just call me a biscuit-necked bee keeper outright and be a man about it?

    • Lady, if you put that in a 55 gallon drum you'd have plenty of room for ALL your peanut butter and 2 pillows.

Sure, you can do that. No law says you can't be an irritating shithead. However, other people don't have to put up with it, so don't try it with your parents. (Note that I assume you still live with your parents in that trailer that's been in your family for a thousand years -- and I'm not wrong, am I?)

They may get briefly annoyed for a few minutes, but eventually, they'll just ignore you. Then what will you do for the attention you so desperately crave?

    • What trailer? And my parents have been dead for over 200 years, mister.

I think the first part of your post is normal. Plenty of people don't like to play the game of small talk. Most of them handle it differently, though... by just not engaging in small talk. So why do you feel like you should be a jerk about it?

    • The first part is actually not very accurate anymore, I wrote it 23 years ago and I have significantly immatured since then.
