Is it normal to jack up prices when asking for money from your parents?

Stuff like university books. If they cost $50, I'll ask for $100 and enjoy some extra pocket money. My parents are more than well-off. Am I evil?

  • Not evil. The words you are looking for are: sneaky, dishonest, liar, untrustworthy, sleazebag, thief ... etc..

Good thing you are in school.

Yes you are an evil rascal. They probably get to pay tuition also. Well off or not that would be stealing.

I mean if it doesn't hurt them, and it helps you out, just use this ability wisely. Do not abuse it!

for those of you who say $50 is way over the line, it depends on how much money they make.

I know for some people 50 bucks is a lot of money. But for someone who is well-off, it's really not that much. $50 to them is probably what $5-10 is to you. Just to keep it in perspective....

For someone who earns $2,000 a month, yeah $50 is a lot; but for someone who makes $20,000 a month, it's really not.

$50 dollars is way over the line, if I needed money for a book maybe I might ask for like 5 bucks more but nothing too extreme.

Maybe an extra $5 or $10 here and there, or maybe just keeping the extra change from buying a used textbook wouldn't be so bad.

But $50 is just being dishonest. You say they're well-off, but I'm sure they've worked hard to become so. And the fact that they're paying for your textbooks makes you look ungrateful.

oh please. if your parents are giving you the money and not getting pissed off at the prices, that's not your problem. i know its not "right", but i do this stuff all the time. this sounds harsh, but the bottom line is that if they're giving you the money, take it. thinking too munch about it will only give you hives.

  • Why don't you just ask them for a little extra cash for spending money instead of trying to steal it from them.

What you are doing is not normal and you seem like a bit of a douche for doing it.
