Is it normal to hear a radio station in your head while you're sleeping?

I've heard music just as it is supposed to sound. I've heard talk shows, sometimes with one person talking or with two people talking back and forth about something like politics. I've heard commercials. I've even heard Spanish music and Spanish commercials and I don't speak Spanish.

Does the brain have an ability to pick up radio waves?

I hear the radio station part that you mentioned ALL the time. I can hear them talking, and when i actually turn it on, they finish their sentences from when they were in my head. It's effing weird and i hate it cause i get creeped out...

How do you "turn it on" when it's in your head? I can't control it. Someone shared this with me btw which can mean it's a real thing:

"One explaination could be, and this only happens to a tiny handful of people, is that two fillings in your teeth could be just touching with a tiny air gap between, causing you to be able to pick up radiowaves. It works by the same principle of a cats whisker and a lump of crystal can pickup the radiowaves, because radiowaves are electrical energy, the cats whisker starts to vibrate to the frequency against the crystal and so you have a crude radio, in other words, you are picking up this energy and your teeth are vibrating to the frequency allowing you to hear the radio inside your head! As I say a super rare condition but not impossible!"

Wow, that is a very interesting theory.

It's similar to those musical lollypops that are sold in convenience stores sometimes.

I don't know about "normal" but unique, yes. For several years I've been experimenting with this. Before you drift into sleep, your brainwaves slow down into Alpha state. During this twilight state your brain filters out ordinary sensory information and paralyses your body so you can go to sleep.

I sleep with a fan right beside me. Years ago it was an AC. On the rare occasions I am conscious of going into alpha, the fan noise lowers in pitch and I am able to hear or even create music before actually going into the dream state (Theta).

I believe the white noise from the fan/AC either excites/enhances certain frequencies, enabling you to become aware of the radio waves, or it is a ganzfeld effect and your brain is manufacturing the entire event.

I can now switch between talk radio or music radio stations. The only problem is I've yet to confirm any of the information I've heard with numerous google searches, and in some cases it has been entirely fictitious (leading me to think I am manufacturing it much like a dream).

I suggest an experiment. The next time we hear these radio programs, try to change them. If you can change them you are either (A) manufacturing the event (B) altering your perception of the event (C) able to transmit your thoughts over radio waves (exciting, huh?)

I'm going to tell people to go my youtube channel in the "hallucination" and see if I get more hits. Pretty good way to verify if it's real. Also that means I will have either taken over someone's mind in my lucid state or have broadcast my thoughts live on air, which is kinda scary.

fyi I am a lucid dreamer and artistic type who suffers from mild narcolepsy and frequent insomnia. Not paranoid schizo though I imagine anyone could accuse me of such if I succeed at this experiment, especially if I'm later visited by men in black--yikes.

Just had this experience happen to me right now, and all your conditions are exactly the same as mine, I sleep with an ac unit right outside my room and can hear it, I was experiencing a sleep paralysis episode when I picked up a radio station it took a while for me to concentrate on the signal because I was scared and startled from the sleep paralysis but I'll tell you this station was a different one from the local one here

I'm glad i found this site ! I've been hearing this radio stations in my head for a while, it happens sometimes when i go to bed, and i have no control on that.
Telepathy is when the brain send waves to someone else, and the other person is the receptor, so that means our brain can also pick up radio waves too.
I'm also very sensitive to paranormal stuff. My grandma and my mother too and also my daughter, so i think must be genetic.
So, if you've heard radio in your head, you're not crazy, you're just sensitive ! :)

Let me add my 2 cents. I've been practicing Astral Projection aka OBE's (Out of Body Experiences) for 10 years. Early in my practice I started hearing songs which I did not recognize. I wondered if these were creations of my imagination or was I hearing "real" radio stations.

At some point I decided to listen to these songs as long as possible because if these were "real" radio stations at some point commercials would air. Eventually I was able to hear commericals as well as radio station call signs and frequency (example: WNJR 91.7). As you know all radio stations mention a unique 4 letter call sign and frequency during commercials.

If I heard the call letters and frequency, I would wake myself up and record the call letters and stations into my voice recorder so I could google them later. And to my surprise I was able to locate these stations, but the shocker was none of them were in my area of NY. I was hearing stations as far away as Las Vegas, NV.

Now before you suggest AM signals travel very far, I've only picked up FM stations since the station call signs I've been able to verify are always in the FM band, 88 - 108 MHZ, which only travels about 100 miles.

At some point rather recently I was able to actually change stations at will. The whole experience is amazing.

I suggest to anyone who really want to know if they are hearing "real" stations they should listen for call letters and frequencies, or listen for the commercials which always tend to end with a phone number, which you could verify. Or listen for local news, sports or weather updates which can also be verified.

Music stations tends to be tricky, since you would probably only recognize music on a station which plays the type of music you enjoy. However they all state their call signs and frequency too.

    Good luck.

So did this happen to you only while meditation?

I heard NYC's FM station from Georgia. Will try again tomorrow. My experience is in the comments below.

But am very curious about the ability to switch stations. Does that mean we can tune in and out of frequencies at will? Are there other frequencies that you pick up that aren't radio stations? Some one said they picked up Morse code.

Is the Universe cool or what!

It's only happened to me while I was sleeping. It hasn't happened in a long time. Now I'll hear music still sometimes while I sleep but I'm pretty sure it's my subconscious.

I have shared this a couple of times before, but I'll share it again because I find this phenomenon fascinating.

I was hearing a song in my head one time, I was in my room I think, and I was humming along to the lyrics. I don't know why, but I decided to turn on the radio and when I did the exact same song was playing and it was at the exact same place that I was humming at in my head. It genuinely freaked me out.

My dad has told me a similar story too. He was with a friend one time and he thought he heard a song playing. So he asked his friend if he could hear it too. His friend answered no, he couldn't hear it. This was perplexing to my dad because he could obviously hear it playing. So my dad started singing along to the song that he was hearing. His friend turned on the radio and the same exact song was playing at the same exact place my dad was singing at. It freaked both of them out too.

So, yes, I do believe that (somehow) humans are capable of picking up radio waves and hearing them.

After reading hundreds of reports on this subject I have a discovery here!

WHEN YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE IS HIGH YOU ARE ABLE TO HEAR (NOT IN YOUR MIND BUT IN YOUR EARS) THE RADIO STATIONS.

Sometimes you will hear a different station in each ear. It is physical and not psychological. The stations become more defined with white or pink noise.

The first time it happened I thought I was going crazy....what the hell? I searched the entire house for a radio playing but there was none. I could hear it clearly in the heating vents when they were running so I thoroughly checked the furnace and the basement. I asked my children if they could hear it in the vents and they said no. I have exhaustively linked the occurances to one thing.......my blood pressure.

I could hear them day and night with high blood pressure. With normal BP there are no radio stations in my hearing. I have had completely normal blood pressure for three years now.
It is absolutely not a psychological event to hear radio playing unless you hear the same thing over and over....that is something different. Good luck all....you are not crazy, just check your BP.

    Hey All!

Has anyone picked up seemingly old radio broadcasts? I've heard a few that sounded VERY 50's ish, complete with oldies and that certain announcer vernacular and tone that was popular in the era.

I know radio waves propagate through space and do bounce...but the chance of reception should be, by my guess, extremely low.

Also, anyone else make the interesting connection between this phenomenon, out of bodies and EVPs?

Fascinating stuff. I wish I was a billionaire - I'd fund some serious research. Lol...You'd all be hired! Naps and self-induced paralysis as a job description - not bad, eh?

Typing this as I just woke up from an s.p. episode. Ive had many but this is the first one where anything has ever happened. Eyes were closed as I could hear an old time radio news report coming from where my iPhone lays on my night stand. No fan going. No tv playing. My room is in silence when I sleep. As I could hear it, I opened my eyes and I was in my room. Everything appeared normal but when I tried to move I couldn't. Was mumbling no over and over. I always tell myself in my head to kick my feet when these happen. I could move them but couldn't kick but slowly worked up a kick. Now I'm typing this.

What's weird are the dreams I had leading up to this. First one was I was at a small house party. Just a handful of people. No more than 8. In that dream, there was a point I couldn't move my hand even though it only laid at my chest. Then further in the dream, I lost balance and strength. I was dropping things over and over. Then I couldn't walk. It was like my right leg was falling asleep but that sensation was over my whole body. Even described it that way to a woman in my dream. As I laid against a wall, I started floating. These balloon looking aliens held me by my arms and were carrying me across the sky. They dropped me and I woke up. Went back to sleep and I returned to the same house. Same people but just women this time. I was asking for help because I couldn't move my leg. Same thing. It felt asleep but that tingling was all over my body but a burning sensation started on my Achilles above my heel. Woke up again, rolled over and that's when my s.p. started.

Seems like these dreams were precursors. I don't know but what I do know is it was the craziest sequence of dreams I've ever had.

I too hear this ALL the time. It's at night when I'm getting ready to go to bed. I hear religious radio stations, Spanish stations, songs (last night it was "she's my cherry pie), and the newest one...an auction. You could plainly hear the Auctioneer and the people bidding. Sometimes I hear doorbells ring and people talking in their homes too. This has been going on for years. It started in the house I grew up in. At first I thought people were leaving the t.v on. I never said anything until my best friend was in town staying with me. She would get up storm into the living room and then turn around and say...I could have sworn the t.v was on. That was about four years ago and its been happening ever since. I have to tell you though in both the houses power lines ran over our home. This house now I have power lines running over and big cell phone tower's too. I hear it in this house way more. It's more frustrating than anything. I can't seem to shut it off. The only thing that works is drinking a few beers before bed or staying up so late that I just pass out. I am a psychic/Medium and have learned how to control that. But this I can't. I tell people and they look at me like I'm nuts. What do I do? And what the hell is this called? Is there any support groups or anything?

I personally dont think its normal but it happens. I have recently got into a bad car accident and have metal screws in my jaws. The metal picks up more EMF. I have now been experiencing this and other phenomena since then. I never recognize the songs. I even see original programming on television while I am in a sort of trance. This is from another dimension where angels and DEMONS reside. I have had evil experiences with this such as spirits trying to have sex with me. There are no such things as aliens as these are the beings that the government are communicating with for new technology. These are end times and only Jesus can save your soul. Please dont be ignorant and get a personal relationship with God and repent. Peace

I'm so pleased to know others have this! Mine in particular happens when an air vent, fan, or A/C is blowing near me. I hear songs, sometimes 3 or more going at a time. A lot of white noise. I'm in my new office and they kicked on the vent above me and I asked my colleagues where the music was coming from. This happened to me strongly a year ago, in such a manner that I stepped into the shower turned the fan on and I could hear John Denver, U 2, a newsbroadcast, and the scores of a gameand yelled at my husband to turn on only one thing at time. This scared the heck out my husband at the time and let's just say now when I hear,I just let it go knowing it will stop eventually. I just acknowledge it and sometimes kind of laugh because of the mixture I'm hearing. The vent/fan just shut off and the music stopped...I was listening to Katrina and Waves and Lois Ready, and some news broadcast. Anyway, sorry for the rambling.

So you hear it while conscious? Interesting... I've only picked up radio stations while unconscious...while I was asleep... I suppose things are quiet enough at that point that my teeth or whatever can pick up the sound and I can hear it.

Hello normal people, let me share the experience I had this morning: Note that I was conscious the entire time. Not Sleeping.

I woke up at about 7am, unable to go back to sleep so I decided to meditate. I laid in bed and turned on my headphones to a 528hz meditation session on youtube. Now, I've been giving my pineal gland extra attention lately so when I went into meditation, I went in very quickly in what felt like seconds. The pressure in front and on top of my head increased rapidly and my head quickly felt disoriented, almost dizzy. While remaining in meditation, I calmed the dizziness down and began to hear rambles.

It was like a room of people which I soon realized was talk radio. Not just any talk radio but I know the station, it was Z100 from NY...I currently live in Georgia! I grew up listening to Z100 in Jersey and moved down south several years ago. So I'm not an expert but I think I can tell the difference in accents in the radio hosts.

So as I tried to narrow in on a voice, they began to clear up and Elvis Duran was finishing his ramble and then the traffic report lady had a go. She was going pretty fast, as they do in traffic reports but she was naming routes in North Jersey that I recognized.

And as it always happens to me when I meditate and something cool happens I got excited and snapped out of it by accident.

I'm a pretty logical person, question everything, so I tried to think what could be the reasons for this but so far I've debunked the 2 options that don't relate to things beyond our comprehension:

    1. I do have a crappy DJ set in my place which picks up a radio signal BUT it's two rooms away and it was off. Also, the station that my mixer picks up is local ATL station not the NY station that I believe I heard. I will double check on this tomorrow morning by meditating in the same position and tuning in to the local station. But I'm pretty sure I heard Tri State traffic report, but we can never be 100% sure of anything can we. So I will repeat experiment.

    2. I do have metal in my mouth, fillings, which could pick up a signal (so I've read) but I've had these fillings for years and never heard radio signals before and I have laid and meditated in the same place in same or similar positions before and never heard radio this clear. (I have heard faint music before but never thought much of it since I'm a musical person I always have a song in my head but it's usually the same one for a day or more.)

ALSO I've read a couple of comments here and on this thread
    http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread763136/pg1

where ppl don't have metal in their mouths and hear talk radio as well.

ANY MORE WITHOUT METAL in MOUTH HEAR VOICES??
This would help us all figure this theory out a bit more.

Stuff I wonder is where is everyone when this is happening to them? Are you in a city apartment or more in the wilderness?

I saw someone mention the HAARP program, there's also gang stalking and other means for entities to send radio signals to us resulting in us following suggestive messages transmitted to our heads. Sounds like science fiction to some but it's totally real.

What ever is going on, I'm glad I'm not the only one. I do hope that it's just my super human powers kicking in but why would they tune into talk radio during traffic report = /

I've heard what sounds like radio too, but just before I fall asleep, and I don't have any fillings, it's only happened a few times though. I once heard continuous morse code, not just beeping but the actual ''dits and dahs'' very clearly. I've heard what sounds like I'm in a large crowd of people all talking at once, and I've heard what sounds like some stupid reality shows that I never watch. In my dreams I have heard actual songs that I had forgotten about, and music I don't recognise too, but my dreams are very vivid so I figured that's normal... still no explanation for the other stuff though

I had this thing where I was thinking about a song and as soon as I turn on the radio it was playing.... BUT I came to the conclusion it's because I must have ,at some point, been given a clue subconsciously. eg. from someones earphones next to me listening to the station, some one humming or tapping to the tune. You'll never remember these things, so you'll imagine your thoughts are totally original.

I would think if the same thing happens as you are going to sleep your brain would take things to the extreme because your conscious defenses are down somewhat.

About the people on radio finishing the sentence you think you heard, I would think it as a case of suggestive memory. Imagine that while you were hearing these talk-shows (in your mind) and I came and asked you to tell me all about the said talk-show and the topic they were discussing, I'm sure you'd draw a blank. I can't really explain it but there is an article here (long) http://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/How-Our-Brains-Make-Memories.html

in summary just the act of remembering, can trigger your mind to start "making up memories", and as far as you are concerned you think they as real as day, when they aren't. So next time *before* you switch on the radio ask your self what were they talking about, *then* switch on the radio - this way your brain will have little opportunity to "fill in the gaps" and you can see for yourself whether you really did know what they were saying. The key is to ask yourself right before turning on the radio (letting the radio suggest)!

Designing computer networks I ran into this on the way. Radio waves can be picked up by EVERYTHING. A company of mine was too close to a radio station, their signal actual caused so much noise on their phone lines credit cards would not process in the store. Read this article all the way through he is a bit long winded but it is interesting. http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/657/is-it-possible-to-hear-radio-broadcasts-through-your-teeth

I think thats called broadcasting and its a symptom of psychosis, mainly the schizophrenia aspect of it. Or the government put an am/fm tuner in your head when your were abducted. Your choice.

Psychosis? I looked up broadcasting on psychcentral dot com and it said is when you believe other people are reading your thoughts. Not only this, but I only hear the radio station in my head while I'm sleeping, not while awake.
