Is it normal to have urges to kill someone?

So me and my mom where sitting in the living room, and i was just messing around with a screwdriver. When i just get this urge to stab her with said screwdriver. I just pictured me doing it over and over and over again and the felling just would not go away its like i had an itch that i could not get to. that is not the first time i've had those thoughts either.

    Maybe you should take that anger out on the people that are really hurting you instead of your innocent mother.

      I see your point, but i really don't want to take my anger out on anyone. It just happens when ever im with someone i sometimes get that thought in my mind. I was just wondering if well if it was normal or not

    Sounds like you might have "Primarily Obsessional OCD" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primarily_Obsessional_OCD) also called Pure-O. I'd talk to a psychologist and see if they agree. If you have it, they can teach you to cope with those urges, so that they don't drive you crazy.

    But there's nothing wrong with you. It's just urges.

    It's a natural human phenomena and I cannot for the life of me remember the name of it right now. Sometimes scary or strange thoughts may cross your mind, and that is typical and rather normal.

    Its normal imagination. Especially with all the horror movies these days.
    If at all you made any actual action to do this, that would be classed as mental or dangerous to society, of which you'd be locked away from society until you could keep it in your thoughts only.
