Is it normal to have such a big gap between kids?

I had my first baby at 15 with my husband while we were both sophomores in HS and then we had our 2nd child at 35. Our kids are now 23 and 3. They're both boys. IIN? Do you guys have pretty big gaps too?

I had a built in babysitter at 11 years apart. It worked out great for all.

    • No, our oldest doesn't have any children of his own yet. He told us he wouldn't worry about having a kid until his late 20s or early 30s. He wants to finish college, find a very nice girl, and even travel a little first.

It kinda sounded like a mistake but I didn't want to imply that. I've heard of a few families where there are adult children when a new baby comes along. I think people do it for different reasons, some perhaps better than others. The bottom line, I'd say, is are you happy? If it's been a blessing for you then it doesn't really matter if it's normal or not.

    • Yes. My husband and I are very happy and we love our boys. They've been a great joy to us even if there is a incredible gap between them. Our sons adore one another too. Some things just occur differently from what you expect sometimes. :)

That's no way to get the older kid to help out.

    • It was a mistake, really. We foolishly forgot BC one night and I got pregnant with our first. We just wanted our oldest to be grown before we had a 2nd baby. But since we done that, they're like two only children. Our eldest son is in college and our youngest goes to daycare. We take care of our youngest but it's nice when our oldest chooses to help now and then. We don't force it on him though.
