Is it normal to have strong feelings for a friend you've met only once?

So I met this person when I was 16 at a student conference. We kinda talked during the time but didn't really become friends until after via AIMing skyping and on the phone. We've been friends for 7 years now without ever seeing each other in person since the conference. I always thought she was cute and had a great personality so i really had a strong crush on her but i never really looked at her as someone i wanted to take things serious with because of distance. She lives multiple states away so it really wasn't conceivable to visit her. Well not until recently. A couple months ago we spilt the beans on our feelings and found out we felt the same way for each other. We later talked about me visiting her for a couple days which I am now doing. My question is is it weird to have borderline L word feelings for this girl that I've only seen in person once over 7 years ago?

Update. The visit is over. It couldn't have gone better. We are now a couple and are going to try the long distance thing. I've also moved so I'm only a couple hours away so I'm no longer too far apart

    I know it;s normal.
I met a guy at this mental hospital and I thought he was cute, after one conversation, I fell in love.
Too bad I can never see him again.
    You're lucky...
