Is it normal to have string hanging from anus

i have an extremely painful fatty string dangling from my anus - about 23cm long - and i was wondering if anybody else had a similar problem??????
several times have i tried to pull it out, but the sticky thing just won't budge and it stung like hell when i got the old scissors onto it.:/
can anybody reassure me?
