Is it normal to have sex quickly if you date people who you've known over a yr?

I usually only date people who I have been hanging out with or known for a while. Usually between 6 months and a year. Think friends of friends, regulars at places you hang out, your own friends.

Because of this I'm always a bit confused about how soon to have sex. Is it normal to have sex quickly (like on a 1st date) under these circumstances?
