Is it normal to have hard time following lyrics

I really have a hard time following lyrics to music. I can listen to a song 50+ times but still not know 90% of the lyrics. When I listen to music no matter what genre its all about the rhythm of the song not what the lyrics are saying to me. I even read the lyrics as I listen to the song to understand it better, but end up forgetting the lyrics and just remember the message of the song.

    I have a friend that does this. Drives me insane, I can correct him on the lyrics and five seconds later he forgets them and just sings them his own way!

    Try memorizing Scatman John's lyrics, that should make for good mental practice.

    its hard to memorize poetry.

    that being said, if it is a song of moderate tempo and clear vocalization so that you can easily understand what the lyricist is saying then it makes it easier certainly. which songs in particular do you have trouble memorizing?
