Is it normal to have gone to counseling for 15+ years and not see any differenc

I have gone to counseling for over 15 years and it doesnt seem to have made any difference...I cant say what I would have been like without it ...maybe worse I dont know...if I compare myself to 15 years ago...it seems in some ways I am better..some worse...some about the same...so overall not much difference...IIN? Also I have had about 3 different counselors...the one I have now is really good BTW...

You have to put in the effort, it isn't just up to them for you to get better.

And nobody is perfect, some of the things you don't like are probably just part of your natural personality and hencely unchangeable.

It's an oversimplification but perhaps she benefits from you because she is the giver. You do not because you are the taker.

    • Since I pay her $120 an hour and she always takes it..I think you could say I am a giver too...

  • I do not expect my counselor to fix or cure me...it would be nice but no one has that power so I dont expect it...She does NOT push drugs.......never....if i feel i need something she is supportive ...if i feel i dont need something...she is supportive...she has the same belief as me ....if you can function well then fine..if you cant function you might need something....she has her limitations but we have such a good rapport that we can work through them...I feel she is good...in fact she is not the problem at all perbse...the problem is that i still have low self esteem, depression and anxety...even meds dont help for long...these issues dont seem to budge...and i cant seem to create loving relationships

Seems as if you might need a different kind of help than just talking? You'd need help to improve the way your mind works.

I sadly believe that some people are just meant to be depressed, there's even a diagnosis called Borderline personality disorder that you CAN'T cure, you just have to find the tools that makes you able to live with this.

Because you're not trying. Try to improve instead of chatting with your counseler about the weather. Maybe... since it was a while, you heard similar info and don't know what to do. (?)

Seeing as you've been having it for so long you don't know what you'd be like now if you weren't having it, you could be much worse off
