Is it normal to have an imaginary girlfriend?

I just kinda... made her up a long time ago when I was in a particularly lonely part of life. Even though things have improved a lot since then, it's like I'd miss her too much if I gave up on it. Should I even bother trying? If it's not negatively impacting anything else in life, what's the harm right?

You should look into tulpas. It sounds like you may have created one.

    • I already know about them. I don't plan on purposely trying it, but it seems to be happening in its own anyways. I've been able to communicate with her in a few dreams.

Not often, but I wouldn't mind if it did happen more.

Well as long as it doesn't negatively impact your life then it's fine.

Allie! Tell that bitch she left her panties on my back seat.

It's only unhealthy if it turns into an obsession; as in Allie is the woman of your dreams, then no real woman will ever match up, unless she's like Allie in various ways.

Imagination is fine, but don't make it real or forget reality.

    • She's far from a "dream girl", to be honest. It started out that way, but it's almost like she slowly developed a personality of her own over time. Yes, I know she's not real (I don't talk to myself out loud or anything), it's more of a feeling.

But you still have good advice either way. When the time comes I actually want a real relationship, I'd gladly drop Allie. But for now, I'm content being alone so I can focus on other goals as much as possible like teaching myself to code.

Do you have sex with her?

    • Not yet anyways. Simply masturbating and pretending it's her would make me feel like a cretin, since she feels somewhat aware in my mind. If she becomes a proper tulpa and also wants to do it? That's a different story.

I do the same thing, create a personality for an inanimate woman who used to have her own personality... it's strange because I realize it could be totally different than the one I'm imposing on her.

  • I'm not entirely sure if you're joking or not, but yes. Her name is Allie.

Sometimes, a dream girl can help restore your faith in womankind.
