Is it normal to have a really deep voice as a women?

My voice keeps fluctuating and settling in this really deepish area. People who hear me say I sound like a man (although I’m a woman).

Is it normal to have such a deep voice that people confuse your gender when you speak?
Is it desirable? Is it unsettling?

Any input is helpful.

I've tended to date a few women with relatively deep voices for women. I don't know how deep you are per se but there are often overlaps where people can't tell if it's a man or woman on the phone without seeing them in person.

There are singers that could pass for the other sex; Tracy Chapman comes to mind. As long as you dont sound like James Earl Jones, you're probably fine. You may get called sir on the phone lol but at least you're not a squeaky whiney high pitched bitch.

This is true. I have a very high voice and I hate it. Sure, you can tell I'm female but I'm middle aged and people think I'm a kid on the phone. I used to have a senior position at work and I felt I was taken less seriously because I sounded young and ineffectual. If I complain about something I get called whiney and shrill. I would kill to have a sexy deep grown up voice. Rock it OP.

  • Deep voice, High voice, Slow voice, Fast Voice. We all have different voices, and that’s perfectly awesome!

My voice sounds average for a woman, but incredibly nasally at times? Like in the morning I’ll have a deeper voice, which is weird.

I got pneumonia on an expedition in the rocky mountains. It caused me to lose my voice for a month and a half. Before that, my voice was already on the deep side, but after the pneumonia it was permanently worse. Im still self conscious about it, but by no means are we the only ones. There are also women who naturally sound like they just sucked a helium balloon. Face it, we cant be intelligent, beautiful AND have a perfect voice. That wouldnt be fair. We will have to live with pretty & smart. :D

I love women that have deep bedroom voices like yours. They are especially sexy in, well, bed.

I don't see a problem. Plus, it's kinda sexy, IMHO.

  • I don’t have a deep voice but I hear mines low and quiet which I hate I always have to yell at people which is really awkward. On the phone I sound like a little kid but it can be hilarious sometimes. Even last week some spectrum scammer called me and I answered and they asked me if my dad was home.

But I’ve heard many women with deep voices. I’ve even got called sir on the phone from some indian bitch.

I don't see a problem. As long as you don't ACTUALLY sound like a man and have a manly voice, your voice is ok and normal. Some women have deep voices.
Also a woman with a deep voice can be quite sexy.

Few years ago I dated this girl who had the sexiest and smoothest bedroom voice ever. She could turn me on just by saying "Hey babe" while giving me a slightly flirty look.

I have a friend who has a deep voice but I'm used to it so I don't really notice now but there are men who really like it.

Some women do have deep voices.
One time I went home years ago and thought I heard some dude talking in the living room and was thinking, "Oh boy, what did my room mate bring home?"
I went in and it was her aunt.
I mean when this aunt talked, it sounded like the cowardly lion.

It's not normal if you sound exactly like a man. Are you hairy also? Could be your androgen levels are too high and you may require hormone therapy. Perhaps you can talk to your physician about this. If it's not bothering you, don't worry about it. However if you want to sound more feminine, perhaps lowering your voice can help...

On the bright side, sounding like a man can have benefits. It shouldn't be this way, but people may even take you more seriously.

    • I do have hormone issues. I know it’s partially because of that. I’m just wondering if that’s normal, are there any other women that have the same issue? The comments above are nice though, makes me feel less bad about my voice. So thanks.
