Is it normal to have a long term friend with benefits?

I have been friends with benefits (FWB) with this guy for 4 years to date. He's been there with/for me through my failed relationships, and I for his. Neither of us ever brought up the question of having a serious relationship. We have amazing sex, but we also counsel each other on relationships and life, joke, help each other with normal friend stuff, are unusually honest with each other, and basically break every FWB rule.
Though we are good, I think we know too much of each other to ever consider being a serious couple. Only recently, I realised how unusual this relationship is. Is it normal? Leave comments please!

If you respect each other and no one is getting hurt, I guess it doesn't matter. Four years is a long time for that to go on though. It just sounds like a relationship without the boyfriend/girlfriend titles. I don't think many people would seek out a relationship with someone in your situation, so he could be getting in the way of something better.

Thanks! and no, I don't think it's a bf/gf relationship, or at least a functioning one, as we don't go out and do the normal dating things. Unless there are couples who do little to no socialising outside the house..

What's normal dating to you? I'm as happy indoors with a guy I like as I am outside- Actually I*m happier indoors xD

Have you ever felt anything more for him?

For a short while it's normal, but when it goes on fora long time, it must be something more!
