Is it normal to have a crush on someone i haven't met yet?

Basically, I know him through other people, I'm friends with a few of his friends and we did go to the same school but not at the same time as each other. We both know what we look like and we've been messaging for about a month. For a while I was denying any sort of feelings for him as I'm not someone who would go for a dude I do not know in person, but he moved away and it really did hurt, the thought of not being able to meet up with him soon or easily, and we both told each other that we like each other.
I'm not a patient person so how I am staying composed for the time we meet - and we've discussed meeting, but we don't know how or when - I don't know.
Is it a bit weird that I like someone I haven't met? :/ It feels a little bit... immature.
